Being a home-visiting volunteer
What does a home-visiting volunteer do?
Home Visiting Volunteers visit a family regularly for 2-3 hours once a week. The formula is a simple but effective one – a volunteer, who is a parent themselves, offers emotional and practical support in what ever way the parent is going to find helpful. A parent might need someone to talk to or some reassurance, others might need more practical support with the children or house. Playing and reading with children, getting out and about in the local area and finding out about local services and activities are all things a volunteer can help with
What are the benefits for me?
You will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are making a valuable contribution to your local community and helping to provide effective support for families with young children at the start of their lives.
Being a volunteer can build your confidence and skills, you can access on-going training and Home-Start Aylesbury will support you in personal goals wherever we can. Many volunteers find that volunteering is often the first step back into further education or paid employment after a career break.
What sort of commitment do I need to make?
Home visiting volunteers need to commit to 2-3 hours per week. Volunteers participate in a preparation course before home visiting and attend regular supervision and group meetings. Home-Start Aylesbury is committed to ensuring that volunteers are supported at all times.
